Bolgheri wine tasting at „Terre del Marchesato“

Wine degustation BolgheriBolgheri is a village frozen in time and space, and its wine is one of the most famous and the best in the world. The winemakers of Bolgheri specialise in red wines, created by making blends of different grape varieties, mostly Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Sangiovese. The wine of this area is extremely intense due to the particular characteristics of the soil and micro climate sunny, dry and moderately windy.

Fattoria „Terre del Marchesato“ is located in the heart of the countryside of Bolgheri. The estate is quite small with about 10 ha of vineyards of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Vermentino grapes and 70 000 bottles per year. „Terre del Marchesato“ is owned by Fuselli family from 1954.

The fattoria is open all year round and offers guided tours and Bolgheri wine tasting. We have visited „Terre del Marchesato“ few days ago and it was realy nice experience. The tour started in the vineyards where we learned a lot about the history and philosophy of the fattoria, and about grapes. Later we passed into the wine-cellar where the guide explained more interesting information about the wine, barrels, bottling and aging. And finally reached the open air tasting room-veranda facing green garden.

Our degustation included six different wines – two whites (vermentino „Emilio Primo“ and vermentino riserva „Papeo“), three reds („Inedito“, „Emilio Primo“ and „Il Tarabuso“) and very interesting white mold „Nobilis“ (vermentino harvested by hand the beginning of November with a Noble Rot (Botrytis cinerea), aged 1 year in new barrique of french oak).

The staff is realy kind and friendly, the atmosphere is relaxing, and the wine is very good. For more information about the estate and the wine tours, check www.terredelmarchesato.com
